Ad Placeholders

99.9% of the magazines in this world sell just because of the catchy covers of glamorous women or sports cars on them. You may not realize the importance of images and ad placeholders at first, but if your website gets famous you'll realize that most of the advertisers look for good ad spots on the header or sidebar, which are visible without any need to scroll down.

So, why build a site which has no placeholders? After all, you're putting in all the hard work to make your site famous, not to wonder what you'd do if you don't succeed, isn't it? It won't be a great idea to change your website design layout after couple of years, when it has already become pretty famous and performing extremely well.

Horizontal Scrolling

Horizontal Scrolling is something that 99% of the visitors truly hate- ask yourself! When you don't like your website why would others? You must avoid horizontal scroll bars at all costs.

Some of the website designs don't incorporate horizontal scroll bar in default design, but as the text overflows, they tend to accommodate the additional length by means of a horizontal scrollbar. This may be a work around for the site to work, but definitely not a good thing for its popularity.

Font Size

Too small or too big font sizes may be quite annoying for the visitors. If you're running a funny blog, a technology blog, an entertainment blog or just a personal blog, you may try out various font families, but not the sizes!

If your visitors are forced to look closely and strain their eyes, they're not going to enjoy reading. And, for the sake of humanity, you can't expect to torture them and still ask them to continue reading and browsing through your website can you?

So, keep the font size standard, and avoid font colors like red, dark pink and those which poke the eyes of the visitors while reading.

Moreover, a good website design should take care of unintended white spaces left over in the website content. These white spaces look pretty ugly and give a very unprofessional feeling to the overall look of the site. So, your website design must be able to take care of these white spaces (only the ones left by mistake such as before beginning on a new paragraph etc, not the ones left on purpose!
